Blocked Drains

Blocked drains can be anywhere from a nuisance that causes a few unpleasant smells to a major problem that causes significant damage in the house.  The key to having the situation be more of the former and less of the latter is to get the right help at the right time.

When is the right time to get someone out to look at your drains?  As soon as you start to notice a problem!  Maybe the water doesn’t drain away as quickly as it did.  Perhaps there are weird smells once the water has gone.  Or odd gurgling noises as the pipes are emptying that you haven’t heard before.

All of these are classic signs of blocked drains.  At this stage, it is likely a small problem.  Some debris stuck in the pipe, a blockage catching some food waste or hair.  Maybe a very slight crack in the pipe causing the water to leak in a very small way – that causes a smell.

No matter what, it is worth getting the drains checked to stop the problem getting worse.  It is easier to deal with a blockage or slight crack than a backed up drain or a major leak.  While sometimes there are no warning signs for these problems you can notice, if you do catch those strange noises or smells, always get someone to check the drains for you and head off the problem in its infancy.
